Limestone

Biogenous sedimentary rock.
Fine-grained limestone (micrite) preserving seafloor ripples and bioturbation structures. Warm, shallow seas once covered much of North America in middle to late Paleozoic time, allowing massive formations of limestone to accumulate across the region. Today, limestone beds of Missippian age are host to many of the large cavern systems in the Midwest (Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and other states). This sampe is from the Louis Formation (Mississipppian age) from Bourbon, Missouri.
